Saying #29— Hold Back from Envy of Evildoers
🌿 Meaning of the Saying
Saying #29 is a gentle warning:
as tempting as it may be, do not envy those who seem to rise by doing wrong.
The wicked may look successful.
Their path may look easy.
Their lives may appear exciting, prosperous, even blessed.
But Proverbs pulls back the curtain:
Their lamp burns bright… because it is burning out.
Their success rises quickly… because it has no root.
Their future looks full… because it is empty underneath.
God is saying:
“Do not admire what I intend to dismantle.”
🎭 A Drama Scene: “The Marketplace of Envy”
Lady Wisdom walks with four women through a bustling marketplace.
The stalls glitter with loud, flashy signs:
Shortcut Success
Easy Riches
Attention & Applause
Quick Results
No Consequences
The “evildoers” at these stalls laugh, thrive, and boast.
The four women pause — each one tempted in a different way.
💚 Woman 1 — The Quiet Drift Toward Comparison
She stares at a stall where dishonest women are showered with praise.
“I try so hard to live right, but they get ahead faster,” she whispers.
Lady Wisdom responds:
“Daughter, fast growth without God is fast collapse.
Roots matter more than results.”
💙 Woman 2 — The Deep Ache for Fairness
She watches people who cheat and still succeed.
“This feels unfair,” she admits.
“Why should I keep doing good if the wicked prosper?”
Lady Wisdom says:
“Their path is smooth… because it is short.
Your path is slow… because it is strong.”
💛 Woman 3 — The Allure of Attention
She sees crowds admiring a charismatic but corrupt influencer.
“They get so much attention,” she sighs. “It looks fun.”
Lady Wisdom places a hand on her arm:
“Not everything bright is blessed.
Some lights blind you to the truth.”
❤️ Woman 4 — The Ambition to Win
She watches leaders gain influence without integrity.
“They are rising fast. I want to rise too.”
Lady Wisdom turns her gently:
“The wicked rise quickly
because they have nothing weighing them down—
but they fall just as fast.”
⚖️ Lady Wisdom’s Closing Words
Lady Wisdom stands in the center of the marketplace, her voice rising above the noise:
“Daughters,
Do not envy what glitters—
glitter is what flakes off when gold is fake.”
She points to the stalls:
“Their lamp shines now,
but it burns on borrowed fuel.
The wind of God will put it out.”
She turns to the women:
“Your lamp may seem small—
but it is steady,
rooted,
and kept by the Lord.
Do not trade permanence for a performance.”
🌸 Reflection Thoughts
Ask yourself:
Where am I tempted to compare my pace to others'?
Who have I secretly envied because their life seems “easier”?
What is God showing me about the difference between temporary shine and eternal light?

While reading today’s blog, Psalms 73:3-4 came back to my mind which said, “For I envied the proud when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness.
They seem to live such painless lives; their bodies are so healthy and strong.”
When I read this for the first time, I was in Asaph’s shoes. For this was an area I struggled with. I ask myself on a few occasions, why does the wicked prosper, even though they live so wickedly?
Thank you Sister Penny for sharing light on these verses.
Have a great Day Ladies

Good morning everyone,
ReplyDeleteThe line that resonated with me is, “Daughter, fast growth without God is fast collapse. Roots matter more than results.”
When I was in high school, I started getting frustrated that I was struggling in calculus but some of my classmates (who I believed were not Christian) were excelling! One day I came across Psalm 37:1-3, and I was convicted, because I was definitely "fretting myself" over my classmates success and became frustrated with God.
The later part in that verse says to "trust in the Lord and do good." Thankfully, now when I am tempted to compare myself with the success of others, I am reminded to trust God and wait on Him. I've definitely come to learn that roots matter more than results!
Thank you sister Pens. I hope everyone has a great day in the snow :)
Good night everyone.

📖 Proverbs 24:19–20
What stood out to me as a Melancholic is;
Woman 2 — The Deep Ache for Fairness
She watches people who cheat and still succeed.
“This feels unfair,” she admits.
“Why should I keep doing good if the wicked prosper?”
Lady Wisdom says:
“Their path is smooth… because it is short.
Your path is slow… because it is strong.”
This saying of lady wisdom encourages me to stay focus, and committed, not getting weary in what ever I do to help others, nor should I be looking to others or envying them. Because God is aware of every thing around him. God has a plan for me and it will come to pass in His timing, therefore I am encouraged to be faithful in well-doing and keep on trusting in God alone. Because God is the rewarder of those who diligently seeks him.
Have a blessed evening all !!

ReplyDeleteI really liked this part:
Their lamp burns bright… because it is burning out.
Their success rises quickly… because it has no root.
Their future looks full… because it is empty underneath.
The success of the wicked/evildoers truly appears glamorous, but there are consequences to the apparent success. This was a great reminder that depth is better than what appears glittery.
Thanks Lady Gale!
