🌟 Temperament Transformational Tuesday
πŸ’°✨Temperance πŸ’°✨

(Inspired by Sister Cindy’s impactful financial seminar with the Wisdom Seekers in Grenada.)

Temperance

Meaning: Self-restraint, moderation, and wisdom in managing desires—especially in spending, saving, and decision-making.

πŸ’‘ Why It’s Perfect for Money Wisdom:

  • Temperance helps us resist impulse buys.
  • It teaches us to say “not now” instead of “never,” encouraging delayed gratification.
  • It balances generosity with wisdom—so we give, save, and spend with intention.

πŸ’¬ Encouragement Message

Ladies, in a world screaming “buy now” and “do it for the ’gram,” temperance whispers a wiser way.
It doesn’t mean deprivation—it means direction.

When we show self-restraint, we aren’t limiting our lives—we’re leading them.
Let’s choose to be stewards of God’s blessings, not slaves to spending.

πŸ“– Scripture Tie-In

Proverbs 25:28
"Like a city that is broken into and without walls is a person who has no self-control."

Without temperance, we leave our financial lives open to chaos and confusion.
With it, we build walls of protection, peace, and purpose.

Yesterday, the Grenada chapter of Wisdom Seekers gathered for a powerful seminar on finances, where the virtue of temperance shone throughout. But before the teaching began, Sister Penny warmed up the room with a couple of lively icebreakers:

🧊 Pre-Seminar Icebreakers

1. πŸ’¬ Finish the Sentence:

  • “The best money advice I ever got was…”
  • “If I found $100 on the ground, the first thing I’d do is…”
  • “One thing I wish I learned about money earlier is…”

2. πŸ’‘ Smart or Silly?
Call out “Smart!” or “Silly!” as each money decision is read aloud:

  • Buying shoes on sale you don’t need?
  • Paying off debt before a vacation?
  • Saving $5 a day in a jar?
  • Grocery shopping while hungry?
  • Using your tithe to pay bills?
  • Cooking at home instead of eating out?

The room was full of laughter and energy!
Sister Beverly re-evaluated one answer and said, “Buying those shoes could be smart—if I flip them for profit!”
Now that’s wisdom in the making!

πŸ‘©πŸ½‍🏫 The Backstory of Our Presenter

A month ago, during a ladies' luncheon, someone suggested a financial seminar at our upcoming women’s retreat.
Sister Gale, our fearless leader, felt led to ask Sister Cindy—who is known for her Melancholic-Choleric blend: organized, thoughtful, and wise, though rarely eager to be center stage.

Initially, Sister Cindy didn’t respond. But a few days later, word came through her close friend Sister Alanda:

“You can tell Sister Penny, if she’s serious, I can do the presentation. Just let me know the topic so I can plan.”

And plan she did!

πŸ—‚️ Seminar Topic:
Smart Money Choices: Tips for Financial Success

Subtopics:

  • Setting Financial Goals: Why they matter. Short-term vs. long-term. Keeping God at the center.
  • Budgeting Wisely: Create a simple budget. Avoid overspending. Enjoy life while saving.
  • Investing with Integrity: Understand your options. Make honest, informed choices. Trust God with the growth.
  • Taking Bold but Balanced Risks: Know when to step out. Don’t let fear paralyze you. Faith meets strategy here.

Sister Cindy delivered this with such clarity and depth that we all walked away feeling financially stronger and spiritually wiser.

🧠 The Emotional Spending Reflection

Sister Cindy also invited us to do some soul-searching.
She challenged us to explore our emotional spending habits—those moments when our hearts, not our budgets, make the decisions.

πŸ“ Emotional Spending Reflection Sheet

Purpose: To recognize emotional triggers that lead to impulsive or unnecessary spending and develop strategies for mindful money habits.

Reflect on the last time you made an emotional purchase:

  • What did you buy?
  • Was it spontaneous or planned?
  • What emotion were you feeling? (Stress? Sadness? Celebration?)
  • What triggered it? (An argument? Social media? Loneliness?)
  • What were you seeking? (Comfort? Control? Connection?)
  • Did it help long-term?
  • What can you try next time instead? (Pray? Journal? Call a friend? Walk?)

πŸ—£️ Now, speak life into your future self.
Choose an affirmation below or write your own.  Share it below in the comment section.

  • “I don’t need to buy to feel better—I choose peace over purchase.”
  • “God is my provider. I don’t need to panic-purchase.”
  • “My value isn’t in things—it’s in Christ.”

Three Powerful Phrases from Cindy’s Presentation

  1. πŸ’§ “Watch for the leaks in your spending!
(It’s not the storm—it’s the steady drip that sinks the ship.”)
  2. πŸ“Š✝️ “Faith + Wisdom = Financial Success.
(You can’t just pray—you’ve got to plan.”)
  3. πŸŽ‰ “Celebrate progress, not perfection.
(Small steps still move you forward.”)

πŸ™Œ Testimony of God’s Provision

Sister Persia inspired us all:

“My washing machine broke, and I had no idea how I’d replace it. But I kept tithing, praying, and trusting. Then out of nowhere—God provided a brand-new Samsung 2024 front-loader—for free!

Yes, we praised God with her!
God does see, and He will provide.

πŸ† Temperance Treasure Jar Challenge

As we close this edition of Temperament Transformation Tuesday, I’m inviting every woman—whether in Toronto or Grenada—to join me in a year of discipline and faith, beginning May 1, 2025 to May 1, 2026.

πŸ’°Challenge:

  • Choose a partner or create a team of 3-5 and save at least $1 a day individually. (Keep each other accountable).
  • Drop it in a jar—no peeking, no spending.
  • At the end of the year, donate a portion to our Women’s Ministry and watch how God honours our obedience.

How much will you start with per day? Share your $ in the WS chat!

🧁 Fellowship & Prayer

We closed with joy, food, gratitude for Sister Cindy, and the sweet reminder that in this walk of faith—we are never alone.

πŸ™ Closing Prayer

“Lord, thank You for the gift of temperance.
Help us to be wise stewards—faithful in planning, generous in giving, and content in living.
Teach us to walk in wisdom, save with purpose, and trust in Your limitless provision.
In Jesus’ name, and we all say, amen.”

A great day to all!
