KING

THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD · A–Z

K — King

Entering the King’s Court

Imagine entering the court of a king. You become aware of his authority, listen carefully, and consider how to respond.

Now turn your thoughts toward the King of kings. His authority is supreme, His wisdom is perfect, and His reign will never end. Through Jesus Christ, we can draw near to Him with reverence and confidence.

Welcome to an imagined conversation between a Bible study guide and readers exploring God’s kingship. There are many words beginning with K that help us describe God. Here, our focus is King.

God already reigns. Our response is to submit to His loving rule. As you read, ask yourself: Am I honouring His authority in every area of my life?

Take your time. Pause, pray, and reflect. You may read in one sitting or return to the conversation over several days.

“For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.”

Psalm 47:7

Truth to carry: God is King—I can trust His leadership and submit to His rule.

Follow the PROMPTS pattern: Prayer · Read · Observe · Meditate · Praise · Thanksgiving · Share. Scripture quotations are from the King James Version (KJV). Select a Scripture reference to read the passage.

P — Prayer

Guide: Let us ask the Lord to teach us what it means to call Him King.

Father, help us honour Your authority and submit to Your rule. Show us areas of our lives where we need to obey You more fully. Teach us to trust Your leadership, rest in Your wisdom, and follow Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Ask God to… reveal one area where you need to yield to Him and give you grace to take the next step of obedience.

R — Read

Guide: Listen to what Scripture declares about our King.

  • “The LORD is King for ever and ever…” — Psalm 10:16
  • “For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.” — Psalm 47:7
  • “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.” — Revelation 19:16

Read slowly. Notice what these passages reveal about the reach of His authority and the permanence of His reign.

O — Observe

Guide: What words stand out?

Reader 1: King and for ever and ever.

Reader 2: All the earth.

Reader 3: King of kings and Lord of lords.

Guide: What do those words teach us?

Reader 1: His reign never ends.

Reader 2: His authority extends everywhere.

Reader 3: No ruler is above Him.

Guide: Yes. God is King. Revelation presents Jesus Christ as the King of kings and Lord of lords.

What does “king” mean? The Hebrew word melek means king. It speaks of a ruler’s authority. When Scripture calls God King, it declares His supreme authority over His creation.

Pause and reflect: What comes to mind when you hear the word King? Does it stir comfort, gratitude, reverence, or a desire to understand Him better?

M — Meditate

Reader 1: If God is King, why do I sometimes struggle to obey Him?

Guide: Yielding control can be difficult. We may know that God is wise and still hold tightly to our preferences. Trust grows as we bring our plans to Him, listen to His Word, and practise obedience.

Reader 2: That sounds familiar. I often want Him to approve what I have already decided.

Guide: Then a helpful prayer is: Lord, show me what honours You, and help me follow it.

Reader 3: What does His kingship mean practically?

Guide: His wisdom deserves our trust and His commands deserve our obedience. Our time, money, relationships, work, decisions, and future plans all belong under His authority.

Reader 4: Does surrender mean I stop making plans?

Guide: We can plan responsibly while submitting those plans to God. We pray, seek wisdom in Scripture, receive sound counsel, and remain willing to obey when His Word challenges our desires.

The Throne at the Centre

The guide places a picture of a throne on the table.

Guide: Let this picture represent what directs your choices. What has been carrying the most weight lately—fear, worry, busyness, pride, comfort, or the Word of your King?

God’s reign is secure. This reflection invites us to recognise His authority in how we live and to bring our hearts into willing obedience.

Pause and pray: Which area is hardest to surrender? Name it honestly before God. Ask Him for help with one practical step.

Reader 1: What happens when I fail?

Guide: Return to Him in repentance. Through Christ, you can seek forgiveness and help to obey. Read 1 John 1:9 and Hebrews 4:14–16. His grace gives us reason to draw near and keep growing.

Because God is King, I can…

  • Trust His wisdom when I cannot see the way ahead.
  • Bring my plans and concerns to Him.
  • Choose obedience over convenience.
  • Receive His mercy and help when I stumble.
  • Honour Him in ordinary responsibilities.

A prayer to carry: Lord, help me trust and obey You as my King.

P — Praise

Guide: Why do we praise God for being King?

Reader 1: Because His reign is eternal.

Reader 2: Because His authority extends over all the earth.

Reader 3: Because Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords.

Reader 4: Because I can trust His leadership.

Praise pause: Continue in your own words. Lord, You are King. Your wisdom is perfect, Your authority is supreme, and You are worthy of my worship.

T — Thanksgiving

Lord, thank You for being a good King. Thank You for ruling with wisdom, leading Your people, and caring for us. Thank You that Your reign will never end. Help me respond with gratitude, trust, and willing obedience. Amen.

Make it personal: Thank Him for one way His leadership has guided, corrected, or sustained you.
