D — Deliverer
Welcome. Take a quiet moment to settle your heart. Whatever you are carrying today, you can bring it before the Lord.
Perhaps you have been trying to hold everything together. You answer the messages, attend to what needs doing, and keep moving. Then, in a quiet moment, you admit: “Lord, I need help. I cannot carry this by myself.”
That honest prayer is a place to begin.
Paul knew what it meant to reach the limits of his strength. Writing about severe trouble in Asia, he described a time when he feared he would not survive. Through that experience, he learned to depend on the God who raises the dead. Remembering God’s rescue, he placed his hope in Him again.
Many words beginning with D can help us praise God. Today, we will linger over one: Deliverer—the One who rescues and brings His people to safety.
Scripture: Psalm 18:2 and 2 Corinthians 1:8–11
A truth to hold: Because God is my Deliverer, I can call on Him in trouble and place my hope in His faithful care.
P — Pray
“Lord, open my eyes to know You as my Deliverer. Help me trust You personally, bring You my needs honestly, and follow Your guidance. Amen.”
R — Read
“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer”
— Psalm 18:2, ESV
The words “my deliverer” express personal trust. God is the One to whom the psalmist turns for protection and rescue.
In 2 Corinthians 1:8–11, Paul remembers a rescue already received and looks ahead with hope. He also invites others to support him in prayer.
O — Observe
These passages show that trusting God and acknowledging distress can belong together. Paul speaks openly about his weakness while expressing confidence in God.
God’s help gives reason for thanksgiving. The prayers of others also matter: Paul welcomes their participation rather than carrying his burden alone.
In Psalm 50:15, God invites His people to call on Him in trouble and honour Him for His deliverance.
M — Meditate
Remember a time when God helped you through something you could not manage alone. Perhaps His care reached you through an unexpected provision, a faithful friend, or strength to keep going.
Deliverance does not promise an easy life or an immediate escape from every hardship. God can remove a danger, and He can sustain His people as they endure suffering. We can trust His wisdom while asking honestly for rescue.
Where do you need to place your hope in Him today?
P — Practice
Name one situation before God. Ask for His help and for wisdom about the next step you can take. If you need support, reach out to someone trustworthy and ask them to pray with you.
Let your prayer become praise:
“Lord, I praise You as my Deliverer. You are my refuge when I feel overwhelmed. My need is known to You, and I can call on You for help. Teach me to rest in Your care and follow where You lead.”
Continue in your own words. A simple prayer is enough: “Lord, help me trust You as my Deliverer.”
T — Treasure
Truth to Treasure: I can call on God in trouble. His faithfulness gives me reason to hope, pray, and give thanks.
Because God is my Deliverer, I can ____________________.
Pause in thanksgiving:
“Thank You, Lord, for the help You have already given me. Thank You for the people who have prayed with me and the ways You have sustained me. Help me remember Your faithfulness as I trust You with what lies ahead.”
S — Share
What are you thanking God for as you reflect on Him as Deliverer?
You are welcome to share a short thanksgiving in the comments, complete “Because God is my Deliverer…”, or simply type “Amen.”
A thought to carry with you
You do not need to find perfect words before asking God for help. Begin where you are. Remember His past faithfulness, bring Him your present need, and place the future in His hands.
Ask God to… strengthen your trust, guide your next step, and give you a thankful heart as you depend on Him.
The Lord is my Deliverer.
Carry this truth with you in the days ahead.
Love God.
Love Others.
Stay the Course in the Word.
