Listening to God and to Others with Wisdom

Welcome, WOW?

Thank you for taking a few moments in your day to pause, listen, and grow in wisdom together.

This 6-day journey is designed to help us grow in listening with humility, wisdom, compassion, and obedience. Each day includes a Scripture reading, a short meaning, practical application, and four affirmations. Choose one affirmation each day to post in the WhatsApp chat.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Day 1 — Listening Begins with a Teachable Heart

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 1:5

“Let the wise hear and increase in learning,
And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel.”

Meaning

This verse teaches that wise people do not stop listening because they already know something. True wisdom remains teachable. A wise person listens in order to grow, learn, and receive guidance. Listening is not a sign of weakness; it is a sign of humility and maturity.

Application

In daily life, we can become quick to speak, assume, defend ourselves, or think we already understand. But God calls us to remain open and teachable. Whether through Scripture, counsel, correction, or conversation, wise people keep learning. Today, ask God for a heart that is willing to hear.

Choose one affirmation to post on WhatsApp

  1. Today, I choose to listen with a teachable heart.

  2. Today, I am asking God to help me grow in wisdom as I listen.

  3. Today, I want to remain open to learning and godly counsel.

  4. Today, I am reminded that wise people never stop listening.

Pause here for today, dear sisters. Take a little time to reflect on what you have read, and we will continue tomorrow, God willing.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Day 2 — Listening Carefully Before Responding

Scripture Reading: James 1:19

“But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger.”

Meaning

This verse teaches us the right order in relationships: hear first, speak later, and do not rush into anger. Listening well requires restraint. Many misunderstandings happen because people answer too quickly, react emotionally, or speak before understanding.

Application

In conversations with family, friends, or church members, pause before responding. Let the other person finish. Ask questions if needed. Try to understand before explaining yourself. This kind of listening brings peace, wisdom, and maturity into relationships.

Choose one affirmation to post on WhatsApp

  1. Today, I choose to be quick to hear and slow to speak.

  2. Today, I am asking God to help me respond with patience.

  3. Today, I want to listen first before giving my opinion.

  4. Today, I am learning that wise listening brings peace.

Let today’s reading settle gently in your heart. Reflect on it through the day, and come back tomorrow, God willing, for the next step in the journey.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Day 3 — Listening for Understanding

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 2:1–2

“My son, if you will receive my words
And treasure my commandments within you,
Make your ear attentive to wisdom,
Incline your heart to understanding.”

Meaning

These verses show that listening is more than hearing words. It involves receiving, treasuring, paying attention, and inclining the heart. God is not only looking for outward hearing, but inward readiness. Listening for understanding means leaning in with both mind and heart.

Application

When reading Scripture or listening to others, slow down and ask: What is really being said? What does this mean? What is God showing me here? Listening deeply requires attention, reflection, and willingness to understand rather than rush past what we hear.

Choose one affirmation to post on WhatsApp

  1. Today, I choose to incline my heart to understanding.

  2. Today, I want to listen more deeply and more carefully.

  3. Today, I am asking God to make my ear attentive to wisdom.

  4. Today, I want to treasure what God is saying to me.

That is enough for today, ladies. Sit with these verses for a while, and then return tomorrow, God willing, to continue listening with intention.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Day 4 — Listening to the Heart Behind the Words

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 15:28

“The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer,
But the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.”

Meaning

This verse teaches that righteous people do not answer carelessly. They pause, consider, and weigh their response. Listening well includes noticing more than facts; it includes sensing the heart, tone, and deeper need behind the words. A thoughtful listener does not rush.

Application

As you speak with others today, pay attention not only to their words but also to their feelings. Ask yourself: What might this person be carrying? What are they really trying to say? Listening with compassion helps others feel seen, valued, and understood.

Choose one affirmation to post on WhatsApp

  1. Today, I choose to listen with compassion and care.

  2. Today, I want to pay attention to the heart behind the words.

  3. Today, I am asking God to help me answer thoughtfully.

  4. Today, I want others to feel heard when they speak with me.

Stop here today and let your heart linger over these thoughts. Continue to reflect prayerfully, and we will pick up again tomorrow, God willing.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Day 5 — Listening That Leads to Obedience

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 1:33

“But he who listens to me shall live securely
And will be at ease from the dread of evil.”

Meaning

This verse reminds us that listening to God is not merely hearing His voice, but responding to it. Listening in Scripture is closely connected to trust and obedience. There is safety and peace in walking in the wisdom God gives.

Application

Ask yourself today: Is there something God has already shown me that I need to obey? It may be a change in attitude, a step of forgiveness, a call to speak kindly, or a prompting to trust Him more fully. True listening does not stop with hearing; it moves into obedience.

Choose one affirmation to post on WhatsApp

  1. Today, I choose to listen to God with an obedient heart.

  2. Today, I want to respond to the wisdom God gives me.

  3. Today, I am asking God to help me not delay obedience.

  4. Today, I want my listening to lead to faithful action.

Take this word with you into the rest of your day. Reflect on how the Lord may be calling you to respond, and continue tomorrow, God willing.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Day 6 — Listening Daily at God’s Gates

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 8:34

“Blessed is the man who listens to me,
Watching daily at my gates,
Waiting at my doorposts.”

Meaning

This verse paints a beautiful picture of someone waiting eagerly to hear from God. Listening is not meant to be occasional or careless, but daily, watchful, and expectant. The blessed person makes room to hear from the Lord again and again.

Application

Build a daily posture of listening. Set aside time to read, reflect, pray, and wait quietly before God. In daily life, we often rush, but this verse calls us to watch, wait, and make room for wisdom. Listening grows stronger when it becomes a regular practice.

Choose one affirmation to post on WhatsApp

  1. Today, I choose to wait daily before the Lord and listen.

  2. Today, I want to make room in my day to hear from God.

  3. Today, I am asking God to grow in me a steady listening heart.

  4. Today, I want to be watchful and ready for God’s wisdom.

We will stop here for today, dear sisters. Let this final reading continue to echo in your heart as you keep walking in wisdom, day by day.

Closing Encouragement

As we reflect on these Scriptures, may the Lord help us grow as listeners who are teachable, patient, understanding, compassionate, and obedient. Listening is not only a skill; it is a spiritual posture. May we learn to listen more carefully to God and more lovingly to one another.
