eXhaustless

THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD · A–Z

X — eXhaustless

There Is Still More

Standing beside the ocean gives us a glimpse of its vastness. We can explore its waters and learn many true things about it, yet one visit cannot reveal all its depths. This offers a small picture of the wonder of knowing God.

God has graciously revealed Himself so that we can know Him truly. Yet His greatness reaches beyond everything our minds can fully grasp. There is always more reason to worship, trust, and love Him.

For the letter X, we use eXhaustless, meaning inexhaustible: God’s greatness cannot be used up or completely searched out. He does not keep becoming greater. The fullness of who He already is exceeds our understanding.

Whether you are beginning to learn about God or have walked with Him for years, you are welcome. Bring your Bible, read slowly, and pause to reflect. Familiar truths can still awaken fresh wonder.

“Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.”

Psalm 145:3

Truth to carry: I can spend a lifetime knowing God and never reach the end of His greatness.

Follow the PROMPTS pattern: Prayer · Read · Observe · Meditate · Praise · Thanksgiving · Share. Scripture quotations are from the King James Version (KJV). Select a Scripture reference to read the passage.

P — Prayer

Great and inexhaustible God, open my eyes to the wonder of who You are. Give me a deeper desire to know You through Your Word. Help me respond with humility, trust, love, and obedience. When my understanding reaches its limits, lead my heart into worship. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Ask God to… renew your wonder and help what you learn about Him deepen your walk with Him.

R — Read & Reflect

Read these passages slowly. Notice the words that describe God’s greatness and the depth of His love.

  • “His greatness is unsearchable.” — Psalm 145:3
  • “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!” — Romans 11:33–36
  • “There is no searching of his understanding.” — Isaiah 40:28
  • “Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.” — Psalm 147:5
  • “And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.” — Ephesians 3:18–19

Pause and reflect: Which phrase awakens wonder? What does it reveal about the greatness of God?

Name it before God: Tell Him one truth about His character you would like to understand more deeply.

O — Observe

What do these passages reveal?

  • God’s greatness is unsearchable. It calls us to praise.
  • His wisdom and knowledge exceed our understanding. Romans 11 responds to their depth with worship.
  • God does not grow weary. Isaiah describes the everlasting Creator whose understanding cannot be fully searched out.
  • His understanding is infinite. Our limited perspective does not limit Him.
  • Christ’s love can be truly known while surpassing knowledge. Paul prays that believers will grow in knowing it together.

Pause: How does this encourage you to keep learning about God with humility?

M — Meditate

God is eXhaustless. His greatness, wisdom, power, and perfection cannot be depleted or fully measured. We can know Him truly through what He has revealed, while recognising that we cannot know Him exhaustively.

The theological word incomprehensible expresses this distinction: our understanding cannot fully contain the infinite God. It invites reverence as we continue studying what He has made known.

Our understanding can grow even though God Himself does not change. We may see His faithfulness more clearly, grasp His mercy more deeply, and learn to rest more confidently in His wisdom.

Because God is eXhaustless, I can…

  • Keep growing in my knowledge of Him.
  • Trust His wisdom when my understanding reaches its limit.
  • Return to familiar Scriptures with a teachable heart.
  • Grow in knowing the love of Christ.
  • Remain humble about what I understand.
  • Find fresh reasons to worship Him.

A practical response: Choose one attribute, name, title, or biblical description of God. Read a passage that reveals it, write down what it teaches, and respond with prayer and one act of obedience.

A wonder check: Has familiarity with a truth about God made me stop reflecting on its significance? Pause and ask Him to renew your attention.

Faith declaration: Because God is eXhaustless, I will keep seeking to know Him and responding in worship.

A prayer to carry: Lord, deepen my knowledge of You and my love for You.

P — Praise

Praise God for the fullness of His greatness.

  • Lord, Your greatness is unsearchable. — Psalm 145:3
  • Your wisdom and knowledge are immeasurably deep. — Romans 11:33
  • You need no counsellor. — Romans 11:34
  • You are the everlasting Creator who never grows weary. — Isaiah 40:28
  • Your understanding is infinite. — Psalm 147:5
  • Christ’s love surpasses knowledge. — Ephesians 3:19

Praise pause: Continue in your own words. Allow one truth to lead you into unhurried worship.

T — Thanksgiving

Thank God for revealing truths that draw you closer to Him.

  • Thank You for Your greatness that calls me to worship. — Psalm 145:3
  • Thank You for wisdom beyond what I can fully understand. — Romans 11:33
  • Thank You that You never grow weary. — Isaiah 40:28
  • Thank You for Your infinite understanding. — Psalm 147:5
  • Thank You that believers can grow together in knowing Christ’s love. — Ephesians 3:18–19

Make it personal: Complete this sentence in prayer: “Lord, thank You for helping me understand more of Your ________.”

Choose one word of thanksgiving: Wonder · Greatness · Wisdom · Love · Power · Glory. You may choose your own.

S — Share

Your turn in the comments

You may answer one or both questions:

  1. Has this reflection renewed your desire to know God? You may simply answer Yes, or I am learning to keep seeking Him.
  2. Which attribute, name, title, or biblical description of God would you like to understand more deeply?

You are also welcome to complete: “Because God is eXhaustless, I can ________.”

If you wish, share a Scripture, a word of thanksgiving, or simply type “Amen.” Share only what you feel comfortable making public.

If you would like help getting started:

  • I can know God truly without knowing Him exhaustively.
  • I would like to understand more about God as ________.
  • The more I learn about God, the more reason I have to worship.
  • A Scripture I want to carry with me is ________.

You may share this devotional with someone and explore a Scripture together. Encourage one another to keep growing in the knowledge of God.

A Closing Pause — Praise God for Who He Is

Our A–Z journey offers glimpses of God’s wonderful character:

Almighty · Benevolent (Good) · Compassionate · Deliverer · Eternal · Faithful · Gracious · Holy · Immutable · Just · King · Love · Merciful · Near · Omnipresent · Provider · Quickener · Righteous · Sovereign · Trustworthy · Unchanging · Victorious · Wise · eXhaustless

There are many more biblical truths to explore. Scripture also reveals God as Creator, Father, Shepherd, Refuge, Rock, Redeemer, and the God of all comfort. Some words describe His attributes; others are names, titles, or descriptions of His works and His relationship with His people.

No alphabet can contain the fullness of God. Keep opening His Word, learning, trusting, and worshipping. There is still more of His greatness to know.

Live with this truth: Return to one passage from this study. Consider what it reveals about God, respond in prayer, and let that truth shape how you live.

I will never outgrow my need to know God more.

Love God. Love Others. Stay the Course in the Word.

Thank you again, Sister Penny, for taking us through this wonderful attribute of God, "eXhaustless".
It has given me another reason to reflect on just how limitless God is.

    These are my answers:

    1. I would like to know more about God as the “God of All Comfort,” because I have heard this before, but I have never taken the time to dig deeper into what it truly means.
    2. Because God is eXhaustless, I have endless reasons to worship Him.

There is always more of God to know, experience, and praise Him for. 🙏🏽
