THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD · A–Z
L — Love
Receiving His love. Learning to love others.
We often long to know that we are loved. A kind word, a thoughtful action, or faithful care can reassure us that we matter to someone.
Scripture reveals the love of God through His character and His actions. He loved us before we loved Him, and He demonstrated that love through Jesus Christ.
There are many words beginning with L that help us describe God. Here, our focus is Love. The Bible does more than tell us that God loves—it declares that God is love.
Whether you are discovering these truths for the first time or returning to them for encouragement, you are welcome. Bring your Bible and take your time. Read slowly, pause to pray, and allow room to reflect.
“He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”
Truth to carry: God is love—I can trust His character and learn to reflect His love.
Follow the PROMPTS pattern: Prayer · Read · Observe · Meditate · Praise · Thanksgiving · Share. Scripture quotations are from the King James Version (KJV). Select a Scripture reference to read the passage.
P — Prayer
Heavenly Father, open my heart to understand Your love more deeply. Help me believe what Your Word says and receive the grace You have revealed through Jesus Christ. Quiet my fears, strengthen my trust, and teach me to love You and others because You first loved me. Amen.
Ask God to… help you recognise where you need to rest in His love and where you need to show love to someone else.
R — Read & Reflect
Read these passages slowly. Notice what they reveal about God’s love and how He shows it.
- “Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” — Jeremiah 31:3
- “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8
- “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” — 1 John 4:8
- “He will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.” — Zephaniah 3:17
Pause and reflect: Which word or phrase especially speaks to your heart? Read it again and let it shape a simple prayer.
Name it before God: Bring Him an area where you need help trusting His love—a fear, a disappointment, a struggle with guilt, or a relationship in which love has become difficult.
O — Observe
What do these passages reveal?
- God’s love is everlasting. Jeremiah describes His enduring love and lovingkindness toward His people.
- His love is demonstrated through Christ. Romans points to Jesus’ death for sinners.
- Love belongs to His nature. First John declares that God is love.
- Knowing God shapes how we love. First John connects our relationship with Him to our love for others.
- He rejoices over His people. Zephaniah speaks of His presence and love within a promise of restoration.
Notice both the words and the actions. God’s love is revealed in what He says and what He does.
Pause: Which truth helps you trust Him more deeply?
M — Meditate
God is love. His love flows from His character. It is holy, faithful, and generous. It seeks our good and is revealed most clearly in Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:8 reminds us that Christ died for us while we were still sinners. We did not first make ourselves worthy of His love. We receive His grace by turning to Him in repentance and faith.
When your feelings rise and fall, return to the cross and to what Scripture says. God’s love gives us reason to come before Him honestly and trust His care.
Read 1 John 4:9–11. God’s love calls forth a response: as we receive His love, we learn to love one another.
Because God is love, I can…
- Trust the goodness of His character.
- Receive forgiveness and new life through Christ.
- Bring my fears and doubts honestly before Him.
- Rest in His love through changing circumstances.
- Learn to forgive and seek the good of others.
- Show patient, practical care in everyday relationships.
Look back: When has Scripture, an answered prayer, or another person’s kindness helped you recognise God’s love? Take a quiet moment to thank Him.
Faith declaration: Lord, I trust the love You have revealed in Christ. Help me receive Your grace and reflect Your love.
A prayer to carry: Father, help me receive Your love and respond with love.
Pause with This Truth
“We love him, because he first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19
Read those words slowly. Let gratitude for His love become a renewed desire to love Him and others.
P — Praise
Praise God for the beauty of His loving character.
- Lord, I praise You because You are love. — 1 John 4:8
- Your love is everlasting. — Jeremiah 31:3
- You demonstrated Your love through Christ’s sacrifice. — Romans 5:8
- You rejoice over Your people. — Zephaniah 3:17
- You loved us first. — 1 John 4:19
- Nothing can separate Your people from Your love in Christ Jesus. — Romans 8:38–39
Praise pause: Continue in your own words. Worship Him for the love He has revealed through His Word and through Christ.
T — Thanksgiving
Thank God for His love in your own life.
- Thank You for Your everlasting love and lovingkindness.
- Thank You for sending Jesus Christ.
- Thank You for forgiveness and grace.
- Thank You that I can come to You in joyful and difficult moments.
- Thank You for the assurance of Your love in Christ.
- Thank You for teaching me to love others.
Make it personal: Complete the sentence, “Lord, thank You for showing me Your love through __________.”
Choose one word of thanksgiving: Love · Grace · Forgiveness · Kindness · Hope · Peace · Faithfulness. You may choose your own.

His love belongs to the fullness of His wonderful character. Take a moment to thank Him as you remember these attributes:
Almighty · Benevolent (Good) · Compassionate · Deliverer · Eternal · Faithful · Gracious · Holy · Immutable · Just · King · Love
Which attribute is especially strengthening your faith in this season? Let your answer become a prayer of thanksgiving. You are welcome to share it in the comments.
May our growing knowledge of God deepen our love for Him and shape the way we care for others.
Live with this truth: In the days ahead, return to one of these Scriptures. Thank God for His love, bring Him an area where you need help trusting Him, and choose one practical act of love toward another person.
Because God is love, I can trust Him and learn to love others.
Love God. Love Others. Stay the Course in the Word.
Greetings!
ReplyDeleteThe attribute that is especially resonating with my heart right now is King, because last week’s lesson reminded me that Jesus is truly King of my life. He rules, governs, protects, and leads with perfect authority.
When I call God King, I am declaring that His authority is absolute and His rule is perfect.
I will always bow before the King!
A great day to all!
Amen !!

DeleteGood Morning Ladies.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday.
The attribute that is especially resonating with my heart right now is Immutable because God never changes. He is the same God who spoke to Abraham, Moses, Peter, and Paul, and He is the same God who speaks to me today.
That truth brings me great comfort. God's promises have never changed, His character remains the same, and His faithfulness never wavers. Knowing that the God of the Bible is the same yesterday, today, and forever gives me peace and confidence to trust Him completely. 💞
Have A Wonderful Day!!
Amen, 🙏

The attribute that is especially resonating with my heart right now is: LOVE ❤️
To know that I am loved so deeply is very encouraging to me.
Not experiencing the love of a parent has really messed me up emotionally. As a result I have a difficult time believing that I am loved.
When I read about my Heavenly Father’s love for me, and the extent He went to show how much He loves me. I can’t help but believe that I am truly and deeply loved by Him.
Reading that God does not merely have love. But that He is love. It blows my mind, makes me want to experience more and more of His gracious love.
Have a restful night everyone!
