Wisdom Wednesday Week 3 - September 17-23 - Diligence vs. Laziness

Go to the ant, you lazy one,
Observe its ways and be wise,
Which, having no chief, officer, or ruler,
Prepares its food in the summer
And gathers its provision in the harvest.”

— Proverbs 6:6–8 (NASB 1995)

APOLOGYWe are on Week 3, not 4 as mentioned in my text yesterday.  I mixed up the dates.  We have one more week.

Welcome

Lady Wisdom:
“Welcome, Women of Wisdom Fellowship, to Week 3 of our journey through Proverbs.

Let me ask you something:

  • Have you ever left a project sitting unfinished for days? Or looked at that laundry basket, sighed, and said, ‘I’ll do it tomorrow’? Maybe you’ve dreamed of starting something important — a new discipline, a new step of faith — but excuses whispered louder than action.

Sisters, the Bible interrupts our excuses with a very unusual teacher: the tiny ant. 🐜 The ant doesn’t wait for applause, doesn’t need a boss, doesn’t seek comfort — it simply does what must be done.

Today, we ask ourselves: Am I living diligently… or lazily? And the Spirit invites us to walk in the blessing of diligence.”

Let's prayerfully go through this study/reading.  Go at your pace.  Read it bit by bit. Post when you are done.  See instructions below.

P → Prayer πŸ™

Theme Scripture:
“Go to the ant, you lazy one, Observe its ways and be wise, Which, having no chief, officer, or ruler, Prepares its food in the summer And gathers its provision in the harvest.” — Proverbs 6:6–8

Lady Wisdom:
“Lord, we confess our tendency to delay, distract, or even overdo for the wrong reasons. Teach us the steady diligence of the ant. Deliver us from procrastination and selfish ambition. Help us serve faithfully in all You’ve entrusted to us. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.”

R → Read πŸ“–

Theme Scripture:
“Go to the ant, you lazy one, Observe its ways and be wise, Which, having no chief, officer, or ruler, Prepares its food in the summer And gathers its provision in the harvest.” — Proverbs 6:6–8

Lady Wisdom:
“Let’s read together more of Proverbs’ wisdom on diligence:

  • ‘Poor is one who works with a lazy hand, But the hand of the diligent makes rich.’ — Proverbs 10:4

  • ‘The soul of the lazy one craves and gets nothing, But the soul of the diligent is made prosperous.’ — Proverbs 13:4

  • ‘A slacker does not plow after the autumn, So he begs during the harvest and has nothing.’ — Proverbs 20:4”

These verses paint the contrast: diligence leads to blessing; laziness leads to regret.”

O → Observe πŸ‘€

Theme Scripture:
“Go to the ant, you lazy one, Observe its ways and be wise, Which, having no chief, officer, or ruler, Prepares its food in the summer And gathers its provision in the harvest.” — Proverbs 6:6–8

Lady Wisdom:
“Class, let’s observe together.”

Q1: Why does Solomon point to the ant?

  • 🟑 Sanguine: “Because even the smallest creature can model wisdom.”

  • πŸ”΄ Choleric: “Because the ant shows initiative without being forced.”

  • πŸ”΅ Melancholic: “Because the ant prepares ahead of time.”

  • 🟒 Phlegmatic: “Because it just does what needs to be done.”

Q2: What contrast is being made?

  • 🟑 “Ants are diligent; humans can be distracted.”

  • πŸ”΄ “Action versus excuses.”

  • πŸ”΅ “Preparedness versus neglect.”

  • 🟒 “Doing today versus delaying until tomorrow.”

Q3: What’s the outcome?

  • 🟑 “The diligent finish and rejoice; the lazy regret.”

  • πŸ”΄ “Provision versus lack.”

  • πŸ”΅ “Prosperity versus craving.”

  • 🟒 “Readiness versus stress.”

M → Meaning πŸ”Ž

Theme Scripture:
“Go to the ant, you lazy one, Observe its ways and be wise, Which, having no chief, officer, or ruler, Prepares its food in the summer And gathers its provision in the harvest.” — Proverbs 6:6–8

Lady Wisdom:
“In Hebrew, the word for laziness is ΚΏatsel — sluggishness, delay, inertia. Laziness doesn’t always look like rebellion. Sometimes it simply shows up as ‘tomorrow’.

The ant teaches us diligence: steady effort, preparation, and faithfulness without being forced. Laziness, on the other hand, leaves us craving without fulfillment.

Sisters, this truth is bigger than food. It’s about spiritual readiness, relational responsibility, and daily stewardship. God’s wisdom calls us to live with holy diligence.”

P → Practice 🌱

Theme Scripture:
“Go to the ant, you lazy one, Observe its ways and be wise, Which, having no chief, officer, or ruler, Prepares its food in the summer And gathers its provision in the harvest.” — Proverbs 6:6–8

Lady Wisdom:
“Let’s see how diligence applies to each temperament.”

  • 🟑 Sanguine (Talker): Resist distraction.
I-Statement: “I will finish what I start instead of leaving things undone.”

  • πŸ”΄ Choleric (Leader): Resist prideful overwork.
I-Statement: “I will work diligently with humility, for God’s glory, not mine.”

  • πŸ”΅ Melancholic (Thinker): Resist perfectionistic delay.
I-Statement: “I will act with diligence instead of waiting for perfection.”

  • 🟒 Phlegmatic (Peacemaker): Resist procrastination.
I-Statement: “I will start today instead of waiting for tomorrow.”

T → Tell Us Reflection πŸ’¬

Theme Scripture:
“Go to the ant, you lazy one, Observe its ways and be wise, Which, having no chief, officer, or ruler, Prepares its food in the summer And gathers its provision in the harvest.” — Proverbs 6:6–8

Lady Wisdom:
“Now, each of you tell us where you are this week: slipping back, shifting, or Spirit-led.”

  • 🟑 Sanguine: “Slipping back — I keep leaving things half-done.”

  • πŸ”΄ Choleric: “Shifting — I’m learning to work for God’s glory, not mine.”

  • πŸ”΅ Melancholic: “Spirit-led — I’ve started small steps without overanalyzing.”

  • 🟒 Phlegmatic: “Slipping back — I keep saying, ‘I’ll do it tomorrow.’”

Lady Wisdom:
“Thank you for your honesty. Proverbs 10:4 reminds us, ‘Poor is one who works with a lazy hand, But the hand of the diligent makes rich.’ Small steps matter.”

S → Seal with Prayer πŸ•Š

Theme Scripture:
“Go to the ant, you lazy one, Observe its ways and be wise, Which, having no chief, officer, or ruler, Prepares its food in the summer And gathers its provision in the harvest.” — Proverbs 6:6–8

Lady Wisdom:
“Lord, for each temperament we pray:

  • 🟑 Keep the Sanguine focused to finish.

  • πŸ”΄ Keep the Choleric humble in their diligence.

  • πŸ”΅ Free the Melancholic from perfectionism.

  • 🟒 Stir the Phlegmatic into action.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

🌺 Closing Words from Lady Wisdom

“My dear sisters, as we close this week’s study, remember: wisdom is not found in the noise of excuses, but in the steady footsteps of diligence. The ant may be small, but it carries a great lesson — to prepare, to act, and to trust that God blesses faithful effort.

Do not despise small beginnings. Every finished task, every faithful choice, every moment you resist delay brings you closer to the life God designed for you.

So, this week, complete one task you’ve been putting off. Write your I-statement somewhere visible. And above all, keep reading one chapter of Proverbs daily — and keep walking in wisdom.”

🌟 Mini-Challenge (Screenshot This!)

One Task: Finish something you’ve been putting off.
✍️ Write It Down: Post your I-statement where you’ll see it daily (mirror, phone, notebook).

  3. Hello WS.
Sister Penny thank you so much for doing this forum with us. The journey has been great for me. The word of God never gets old. And the encouragement from everyone posting has truly been enlightening. So! Thank you!

Choleric: “Shifting — I’m learning to work for God’s glory, not mine.”
This statement resonates with me greatly,. I have not always been a yes person when it comes to certain things. Over the last two years I have realized some changes about my relationship with God and how much I value that relationship. My walk has shifted, I can truly say I am learning to work for God's glory with the may relationship that surround me on a daily basis, and my interest.
As I reflect on my life, I love the analogy of the ants vs laziness, it is a powerful example of how I should walk before God and man. It is a great reminder that gathering crops, spiritual development, building relationships and managing my time takes little steps at a time in order to become mature and strong. I am reading Proverbs.

  8. Hello Sisters,

    ✨ Week 3: September 17–23
    Theme: Diligence vs. Laziness

    “Go to the ant, you lazy one;
Observe its ways and be wise,
Which, having no chief, officer, or ruler,
Prepares its food in the summer
And gathers its provision in the harvest.”
    — Proverbs 6:6–8 (NASB 1995)

    O → Observe πŸ‘€
    What contrast is being made?
➡️ “Ants are diligent; humans can be distracted.”

As a little girl, I loved to watch ants carry bread crumbs through a tiny hole in the wall. They never seemed to stop working, no matter how small the task. Reading this passage reminded me that if such tiny creatures can be diligent, then surely I can walk in diligence too.

When I reflected on this verse, I shared with Sister Claudia, “I can’t let the ants outshine me!” There was something I had been putting off, and yesterday I finally completed it. What joy it brought to simply finish what had been left undone.

This truth also stood out to us:
πŸ‘‰ “Laziness doesn’t always look like rebellion. Sometimes it simply shows up as ‘tomorrow.’”
    What a powerful eye-opener!

    My I-Statement:
πŸ’‘ “I will finish what I start instead of leaving things undone.”

    Prayer:
Lord, teach us to be diligent in the work You’ve placed before us. Guard us from the trap of delay and excuses. May we honor You by finishing what we’ve started, and may we diligence reflect Your wisdom at work in us. Amen.

    Good Morning Everyone
I am amazed by the Ant- by how it takes it's time to gather it's food for the Winter. It doesn't need a boss to tell it what it has to do. It's amazing to see how every season on it's own it finds it's food to store for the winter in the summer.

I always thought people who were lazy were the ones who sat down and did nothing, but reading through this post I now understand that I can have a lazy hand by "putting things of for tomorrow". That was a real eye opener.

    Thank Lady Gale

  11. Good Morning Ladies,
What a time fitting Devotional for me - "the promise of tomorrow" .In church lingo ,"This was for me" LOL

I pray that as I continue to learn and grow I will be very mindful of the word "tomorrow". Even typing this I am anxious -"will there be a change"

My partner and I discussed how this shows up in the way we procrastinate in the way of spending time with God- We get up in the morning and say we will do it later and when later comes we are too tired and say we will do it tomorrow and the cycle continues untill the week ends and we havent spent anytime in the word.WOW

It's alot to dwell on this week - I am just reminded that true revivial isnt loud and on stage- it happes right in your heart and home when the enemies' schemes are revealed. Such an eye opener

Thank you Sis Penny and all the ladies who have shared

I trust that you had a great week.

Go to the ant, you lazy one,
Observe its ways and be wise,
Which, having no chief, officer, or ruler,
Prepares its food in the summer
And gathers its provision in the harvest.”
    — Proverbs 6:6–8 (NASB 1995)

The message this little creature is teaching me is take ownership of my responsibilities and go after them diligently.

What stood out to me is: " Laziness doesn't always look like rebellion. Sometimes it show up as "tomorrow " I never really saw Laziness as" tomorrow " but we had a good discussion and we were reminded us that what you can do today don't leave it for tomorrow. Don't allow laziness to cripple us but be diligent in doing what we have to do.

    I - Statement
"I will act with diligence instead of waiting for perfection."

Spirit-led: I have started to small steps without overanalyzing.

  20. Hello ladies!
This was a great study again! The ant is a powerful example of diligence. The fact that ants don't have a chief, officer, or ruler but simply do what they need to do and make the necessary preparations is motivating! I am reminded that I need to live with 'holy diligence' and avoid procrastination, especially when it comes to spiritual disciplines.

The point that stood out to me from the study was, "diligence leads to blessing; laziness leads to regret." I don't want to live a life of regret, so I'm choosing to be diligent. As a melancholic, I am going to 'resist perfectionistic delay' and “I will act with diligence instead of waiting for perfection.”

    Have a great week~

    Wisdom study
    Wednesday
    Theme : Diligence vs Laziness
As I reflected I saw the importance of working diligently and not be a slacker becuase at the end of the day is only your hard work that will bring reward ..
    according to proverbs 20:4
    * A slacker does not plow after the autumn, So he begs during the harvest and has nothing.’ — Proverbs 20:4”

🐜 The ant doesn’t wait for applause, doesn’t need a boss, doesn’t seek comfort — it simply does what must be done.
I am reminded that I am so much like this ant 🐜.

    What stood out to me
This truth is bigger than food , it’s about our spritual readiness ,
I thank God that I was never to arrogant and that I always had a sense of urgency to learn .
Consider the ways of the ant, even the ants stores up for rainy day why can’t I and I ask myself do I have to spend everything I earn only a fool does that .

Sluggards: The word sluggard means, “One who is naturally or habitually slow, lazy, or idle; one who is disinclined for work or exertion of any kind; a slothful or indolent person.

This week I really had to consider the ways of the ant 🐜 because they are times you can become so frustrated or even despondent , I had to carefully examine the way of the ant even putting myself in that position .. Sluggards stay in bed because they love sleep and do not like to work , have you ever looked at an ant and the way it moves ,if you get down in the grass and watch these little creatures you will quickly see wisdom and useful habits , ants do not sleep beyond daybreak , they get up to work and stay at work , they have a collective approach in they actions and accomplishing it wholeheartedly, and like myself they commit themselves energetically until ihe task is done ..

If you follow the same mindset as the ant 🐜 you will achieve similar goals ..

The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat” (Pr 13:4).

Proverbs 13:4 Resonates with sister Cindy

    dThe soul of a lazy man desires, and hasnothing;
But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.

    Her affirmation or I statement
I-Statement πŸ”΅ Melancholic (Thinker): Resist perfectionistic delay.
I-Statement: “I will act with diligence instead of waiting for perfection.”

    Bless day everyone

  23. Hi ladies,
I read the the Proverbs every day

    Proverbs 6:6-8 NASB1995
[6] Go to the ant, O sluggard, Observe her ways and be wise, [7] Which, having no chief, Officer or ruler, [8] Prepares her food in the summer And gathers her provision in the harvest.

I prayerful go through the study / reading. And what stood out to me about the ant they have no master they know what they have to do and they do it
They are not distracted by anything
    They work diligently.
They don't procrastinate. There's no tomorrow.
I am learning to take action; and don't live what l could do today for tomorrow.
    Have a good night ladies.

      Hello everyone
      Diligence VS. Laziness
      Proverbs 6 :6-8 (NASB 1995 )
" Go to the ant, you lazy one,
Observe its ways and be wise,
Which, having no chief , officer, or ruler,
Prepares its food in the summer
And gathers its provision in the harvest.

The meaning of this verse is eye opening.
Letting us know the way laziness can show up in our lives.
Even as putting things of for tomorrow.
The ant teaches us diligence: steady effort, preparation, and faithfulness without being forced. Laziness, on the other hand leaves us craving without fulfillment.
That is a reminder for me to put the work in every aspect of my life to get the desire results.
In our team discussion , the I Statement show us the Importance of each in our temperaments of our role.
Knowing what need to be done and doing it.
When I reflect on the ant , there are different types, however the aim is the same be prepared.
      Proverbs 20: 4
A slacker does not plow after the autumn so he begs during the harvest and has
      nothing.
      Blessings.

  29. Ladies,

Thank you all for faithfully reading and sharing your reflections from Proverbs. It is such a blessing to see how God is using His Word and your voices to encourage the whole group.

πŸ’¬ To those who shared about the ants:

Your reflections were insightful and encouraging.

Sister Tessie, your reminder that spiritual growth, relationships, and time management all build “little steps at a time” really shows the steady wisdom of the ant.

Sister Debbie, your story of not letting the ants “outshine” you brought a smile—what a practical reminder to finish what we start!

Sister Lilly, you captured it well: laziness is not only about doing nothing but also about putting things off until tomorrow.

Sister Jesmyn, your honesty about how procrastination can creep into our walk with God was powerful and real.

Sister Theresa, your “Spirit-led small steps without overanalyzing” is such a beautiful example of diligence in action.

Sister Alanda, your rich reflection on the ant’s consistency was both eye-opening and challenging—thank you for going so deep.

Sister Laura, you found the verse eye-opening, reminding us that laziness can show up as “tomorrow,” but the ant teaches steady effort, preparation, and faithfulness without being forced. Your reflection encouraged us to put in the work in every aspect of life to see results.

Sister Trudy, you reminded us that the ant is a powerful example of diligence and “holy preparation.” You shared that “diligence leads to blessing; laziness leads to regret”—a call to live free of regret by choosing diligence daily.

And Sister Deborah, your reminder that no matter our status we can do mighty things together with steady effort was so encouraging. Your I-statement, “I will act with diligence instead of waiting for perfection,” is one many of us can hold onto this week.

    Thank you everyone!

🐜 Truly, the ant continues to be a teacher to us all—quietly modeling diligence, readiness, and perseverance without needing applause. I too learned a lot from the ant - be consistent in all I do.

    Let’s keep encouraging one another:
πŸ‘‰ “The soul of the diligent shall be made rich” (Proverbs 13:4).
Blessings on each of you as you walk wisely this week! 🌸

✨ Join us again tomorrow, God’s willing, for our final theme. May the Lord bless each of you richly as you walk in His wisdom.
