✨ Welcome!
Sisters, I’m so glad you’re back another week. ๐น
Thank you to everyone who took the time to read last week’s blog and share your responses—your insights and reflections are such an encouragement. We are continuing our journey through Proverbs with the PROMPTS devotional flow. This week, our focus is on the path of wisdom versus folly—the daily choices that either align us with God’s truth or pull us toward destruction.๐น Before you begin today’s study, take a moment to pause and pray through these points. Ask the Lord to still your heart, sharpen your focus, and make His Word come alive within you. May His truth not only inform your mind but also transform your life—shaping you into the person He has called you to be.
WEDNESDAY
P → Prayer ๐
Heavenly Father,
I come before You with a grateful heart, ready to open Your Word. I confess that without Your Spirit, I cannot truly see or understand. Lord, open my eyes to behold wonderful truths in Your Word. Give me ears to hear, a mind to understand, and a heart that is soft to receive. Grant me the grace not only to be a hearer, but a doer—applying Your truth in my daily walk. Remove every distraction, calm my thoughts, and help me to focus fully on You. Let Your Word be a lamp to my feet and a light to my path today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
๐ก Prayer Points
Understanding: Lord, open my understanding to receive what You are saying to me through this passage. (Luke 24:45)
Application: Father, give me the grace to not only hear but also live out Your Word. (James 1:22)
Focus: Holy Spirit, help me concentrate and guard my mind from distraction. (Col. 3:2)
Transformation: Lord, let this Word shape me more into the image of Christ. (Rom. 12:2)
Fruitfulness: May the seed of Your Word take root in my heart and bear fruit in my life. (Matt. 13:23)

NASB 1995
“There is a way which seems right to a person,
but its end is the way of death.”
— Proverbs 14:12NLT (New Living Translation)
“There is a path before each person that seems right,
but it ends in death.”
— Proverbs 14:12
๐ Supplementary Reading:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5–6
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” — Proverbs 9:10
“The beginning of wisdom is: Acquire wisdom; And with all your possessions, acquire understanding.” — Proverbs 4:7
Appearances vs. Reality
“There is a way which seems right to a person, but its end is the way of death.”
(Proverbs 14:12 NASB 1995; NLT)Think about the kinds of paths that often seem right—those shaped by feelings, culture, or convenience. Reflect on how appearances can be misleading, and how God calls us to look deeper.
The End in View
“Its end is the way of death.” (Proverbs 14:12)
Consider how easy it is to focus only on beginnings while ignoring the outcomes. Think about the importance of weighing where a choice will ultimately lead.
Trust vs. Self-Reliance
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5–6)
Think about the times you leaned on your own understanding and how that turned out. Reflect on the peace and clarity that come when you acknowledge God in your decisions.
Wisdom’s Foundation
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”(Proverbs 9:10)
“The beginning of wisdom is: Acquire wisdom; and with all your possessions, acquire understanding.”(Proverbs 4:7)
Think about how reverence for the Lord shapes the way you evaluate choices. Reflect on whether you are actively pursuing wisdom each day or passively assuming it will come.
Course Correction
“Trust in the Lord… He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5–6)
Think about times when the Holy Spirit gently showed you a path that only seemed right. Remember how turning back to God’s wisdom has protected or redirected your steps.
✨ May the Lord guide your steps in His wisdom today. May He give you discernment to see beyond appearances, courage to choose His way, and grace to walk the path that leads to life.
THURSDAY
O → Observe ๐
The verse speaks of “a way” — a path, direction, or lifestyle.
This way “seems right” — it has the appearance of being correct or straight.
The focus is on what appears right, not necessarily what is right.
The verse then shifts to “its end” — the outcome or final result of that path.
The end is called “the way of death” — not life, but ruin and separation.
The structure of the proverb shows a contrast between appearance at the beginning and reality at the end.
The statement is emphatic and absolute: it does not say “may end,” but “its end is the way of death.”
This same warning is repeated for emphasis:
“There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” (Proverbs 16:25, NASB
๐ก Observation Summary: Proverbs 14:12 warns that appearances can deceive. What looks safe, sensible, or even wise to us may lead to destruction if it is not rooted in God’s wisdom. The contrast is sharp: self-led living ends in ruin, Spirit-led living ends in life.
๐ฟ Reflection:
As you consider this verse, think about choices in your own life that seemed right at first but proved harmful in the end. Let this reminder draw you back to God’s Word as the only sure guide. The Spirit gently redirects us when we pause to listen—protecting us from deception and leading us into life.
๐ธ Conclusion
God’s Word reminds us to look beyond what merely seems right and to trust His wisdom above our own. True safety and blessing are found only when our steps are guided by Him.
๐ That's it for today! Be sure to come back tomorrow, God willing, as we continue with the M segment of the study.
FRIDAY
M → Meaning (interpreting the text) ๐
This proverb warns us against the arrogance of self-reliance.
“A way which seems right”
Humanity often trusts appearances, emotions, or cultural wisdom.
Yet Isaiah 55:8 reminds us: “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord.
Without God, what “seems right” may actually be rebellion.
“Its end is the way of death”
The Hebrew emphasizes the inevitable result: the destination is ruin.
Proverbs 16:25 repeats this warning, showing how easily we deceive ourselves.
Folly blinds us to the consequences of sin until it’s too late.
Wisdom’s Alternative
God calls us to trust Him instead of our instincts (Prov. 3:5–6).
The fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom (Prov. 9:10).
Choosing God’s wisdom leads to straight paths, life, and blessing.
๐ก Interpretation:
The text challenges us: Which path are you walking? One path is guided by self and leads to destruction. The other is guided by God and leads to life. Every temperament has “a way that seems right” in the flesh, but Spirit-led wisdom corrects our course.
⚖️ Two Paths in Proverbs 14:12
Proverbs 14:12 reminds us: “There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” This verse shows us that life is really a journey of two possible paths: one led by self, and one led by the Spirit.
๐ถ♂️ The Self-Led Path
Basis: Relies on what seems right—appearances, emotions, cultural voices, or personal instincts.
Direction (derek): A lifestyle shaped by human reasoning rather than God’s wisdom.
Appearance (yashar): At first, it looks straight, safe, or harmless.
Outcome (’acharith): The end is ruin, regret, and destruction (maveth).
Examples: Acting on impulse, following cultural trends without discernment, resisting correction.
Final Word: Folly blinds us until it’s too late to turn back.
๐ The Spirit-Led Path
Basis: Trusts God’s Word and Spirit rather than leaning on personal understanding (Prov. 3:5–6).
Direction (derek): A lifestyle guided by the wisdom of God.
Appearance: It may seem harder, slower, or unpopular, but it aligns with truth.
Outcome (’acharith): The end is life, blessing, peace, and security.
Examples: Seeking godly counsel, practicing the fear of the LORD, walking in obedience.
Final Word: Wisdom preserves, protects, and leads to flourishing.
๐ก Meaning Summary:
Every day, we choose which path we will walk. One path looks right but ends in destruction. The other may require surrender and trust, but it leads to life.
๐น Reflection:
Which path describes the direction of your life right now?
Are you relying on what seems right to you?
Are you pausing in second-guessing, sensing God’s nudge to shift?
Or are you walking in a Spirit-led path of wisdom and trust?

P → Practice
✦ Stop, Search, Surrender ✦
(Living Proverbs 14:12 with Wisdom)
๐ Anchor Verse
“There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” (Proverbs 14:12, NASB)
This verse reminds us that not everything that looks right truly leads to life. Our feelings, culture, and impulses can deceive us. To walk wisely, we need a Spirit-led process that guards our steps.
1. Stop – Pause Before Acting
“He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who is quick-tempered exalts folly.” (Prov. 14:29)
Many mistakes happen because we rush. Wisdom begins with stopping—pausing long enough to ask: “Am I moving on impulse or God’s instruction?”
Practice: Before sending a message, making a decision, or reacting in anger, whisper: “Lord, help me stop and wait for You.”
2. Search – Look to God’s Word and Counsel
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Ps. 119:105)
What seems right may feel convincing, but only God’s Word and wise counsel reveal what is right.
Practice: Build the habit of asking:
Does this align with Scripture?
Would a wise mentor agree?
Does it glorify God?
3. Surrender – Yield Your Way to God’s Way
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Prov. 3:5–6)
Wisdom is not just knowing the right way but choosing to follow it—even when it costs comfort or pride.
Practice: Begin your day with open hands: “Lord, I surrender my way to You. Lead me in the path of life.”
✨ May the Lord give you grace today to stop rushing ahead, to search His Word diligently, and to surrender fully to His wisdom. As you do, may your path be made straight and your heart be filled with His peace.
๐ T → Thanksgiving
Thank You, Lord, that You have not left us to our own ways, which only seem right but end in death.
We praise You, Father, for opening our eyes to the truth of Your Word and exposing paths that would have led us to ruin.
Thank You, Jesus, for being the Way, the Truth, and the Life—the sure path that leads us to eternal life with You.
We bless You, Holy Spirit, for guiding our steps, redirecting us when we wander, and keeping us from destruction.
We give thanks, O God, that Your wisdom is higher than our wisdom, and Your ways always lead to blessing and life.
๐น Closing Thought
Every path has an end. Our way may look good for the moment, but only God’s wisdom leads to life. Self-control is choosing to surrender “what seems right” in order to walk in the Spirit’s leading, and that is where true security and joy are found.
๐ “There is a way which seems right to a person, But its end is the way of death.” (Prov. 14:12)S → Seal with Prayer and Share๐
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the light of Your Word that exposes the paths which only seem right but end in destruction. Seal this truth in our hearts today. Guard us from relying on appearances, feelings, or our own understanding. Teach us to trust You fully, to walk in reverence before You, and to surrender every choice to Your wisdom. May our steps be Spirit-led, our lives bear fruit for Your glory, and our paths end in life everlasting.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

❣️I’m Sharing with you a few things that stood out to you from the study on“The Path of Wisdom vs. Folly.”
WEDNESDAY September 10th
Course Correction
“Trust in the Lord… He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5–6)
Think about times when the Holy Spirit gently showed you a path that only seemed right. Remember how turning back to God’s wisdom has protected or redirected your steps.
❣️Answer:
There was a time when a family member did something that really upset me. All day, I kept rehearsing in my mind what I wanted to say to them. In the middle of that mental “rummaging,” the Holy Spirit brought to my remembrance a Bible incident and its outcome. At that moment, I chose to obey the Spirit of God and held my tongue. Looking back, I see it was truly a setup from the enemy, and speaking out would not have ended well. To this day, I never mentioned it—and honestly, I can’t even remember what the issue was.
FRIDAY
M → Meaning (interpreting the text)
“Its end is the way of death.”
The Hebrew emphasizes the inevitability of the outcome: the path leads to ruin.
Proverbs 16:25 repeats this warning, reminding us how easily we deceive ourselves.
Folly blinds us to the consequences of sin until it is too late.
❣️Answer:
After reading this, I had an “Aha!” moment. I recalled many times when I thought my way was right, only to face the destruction that followed. One thing I have come to understand is this: the devil never shows us the consequences of sin—only the temporary pleasures we can enjoy in the moment.
Over the past 20 years, I’ve spent time making things right with different individuals, whether because of something I said or how I acted toward them. The sad reality is that, in the moment, I never considered what the outcome would be.
This verse reminds me to pause and think before I act.
Interpretation:
⚖️ Two Paths in Proverbs 14:12
The Self-Led Path
Direction (derek): A lifestyle shaped by human reasoning rather than God’s wisdom.
The Spirit-Led Path
Direction (derek): A lifestyle guided by the wisdom of God.
❣️Answer:
As I reflected on these two paths, I realized the danger of being self-led instead of Spirit-led. Recently, there were two incidents where I clearly saw how choosing the Spirit-led path allowed me to follow the voice of the Holy Spirit. Too many times in the past, I have ended up in deep trouble because “the way seemed right,” forgetting the warning that it ultimately “leads to death.”
I am so grateful for this exercise, Sister Penny, because the Word is truly coming alive. Thank you!
Have a wonderful day!!
๐ฟ My Reflection
ReplyDeleteThis study truly caused me to pause and consider how often I try to do things my own way. The contrast in the verse made me rethink:
Self-led living always ends in ruin.
Spirit-led living always leads to life.
What struck me was the meaning of “appearance” in both paths:
Self-led Appearance → At first, the path looks straight, safe, or harmless, but in the end it deceives.
Spirit-led Appearance → It may seem harder, slower, or unpopular, but it is aligned with truth and brings lasting life.
I realized that walking in the Spirit is far more beneficial, even when it doesn’t look easy on the surface. So today, I choose the Spirit’s way.
๐ Practice I’m Leaning Into
Of the practices given, #3 resonates most deeply with me:
Begin your day with open hands
“Lord, I surrender my way to You. Lead me in the path of life.”
This simple prayer sets my heart in the right direction at the start of the day.
๐ Thanksgiving Prayer
I echo the Thanksgiving Prayer and say:
“Father, I praise You for opening my eyes to the truth of Your Word and for exposing paths that would have led me to ruin. Thank You for patiently leading me in the way of life.”
Altogether, this study slowed me down, caused me to reflect, and reminded me that the path may look different on the surface — but the Spirit’s way is always the way of life.
Wishing everyone a wonderful and Spirit-led day ahead! ๐ธ

ReplyDeleteThe Path of Wisdom vs. Folly
What stood out to me from this study:
Appearances vs. Reality
“There is a way which seems right to a person, but its end is the way of death.”
(Proverbs 14:12 NASB 1995; NLT)
I’ve come to understand that not everything that looks right truly is right. My feelings can be strong but deceptive. Culture can often celebrate paths that lead me far from God’s truth. Convenience can make a choice feel easier, but not wiser. What seems right in the moment may carry many hidden consequences.
God is calling me to look deeper—beyond feelings, culture, and convenience—and let His Word be the lamp that reveals what is true.
The practice I'm leaning toward is:
Stop – Pause Before Acting
“He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who is quick-tempered exalts folly.” (Prov. 14:29)
Before sending a message, making a decision, or reacting in anger, whisper: “Lord, help me stop and wait for You.”

THE SPIRIT- LED LIVING
A LIFR DTYLE GUIDED BY THE WISDOM OF GOD.
At o very young age I decided to make Jesus my choice.
John 14:6 told me Jesus said I am the way the truth & the life.
I believe He is the only Way.
He is tje truth
He is th life and i am convince
Psalm 23: 3 said He leadeth me in the path- way of righteousness.
So far on this journey I believe am on the right path.
That way not just seems right but it is right.

The Path of Wisdom vs. Folly
Share what stood out to you from this study:
The path that seems right. Appearance in most cases are false it's not real it's only an appearance of something it's not it's true identity.
Truth does not disguise itself, it does not appear to be anything else.
I choose to carry truth. On the Path of Wisdom. Everything is laid out straightforward, there is no it looks like or it seems like, it is a choice to follow and instructions to obey. Seems/appearance contradicts wisdom path. I choose to be spirit led today.
Folly, wants me to follow everything that seems like, everything that appears to be okay. Nothing is sound or concrete, nothing is straight it only seems straight, everything seems upright but it's only an appearance. It's a time killer, endless chasing after useless things.
Of the 3 practices #3 had me.
3. Surrender – Yield Your Way to God’s Way
Most times it's easy to blut out what I deem is best but God way is always the best way. Funny when ai blut out in myself I end up having to go back and do it God's way so why not do it God's way first. This practice need to be developed in me , I need to speak it in to my life daily. I do not want to be a convenient Christian, I don't want to yield when it's convenient for me but I want to surrender and yield because God say I should.
Every day we are bombarded with seems/appearance but I choose to remain straight and upright with wisdom.
Have a great rest of the week๐น

ReplyDeleteHello everyone!
ReplyDeleteWhat stood out to me was the contrast between "Appearances and Reality". A path may indeed 'appear' like the right one, but in 'reality' the end result leads to death/destruction/ruin/separation from God. With the rise of social media, we're fed images of paths that 'appear right', but the truth is, most lead to destruction. We see the 'appearance' of success (big houses, wealth, luxurious lifestyles), but the reality is, all the time spent chasing after these things separates us from God because instead of spending time with God and doing the work of God, we're busy pursuing things that are fleeting and lead to death. We cannot allow the culture/society around us to tell us what path to take; rather, we need to allow the Holy Spirit to lead us on the right path that leads to life!
Thanks, Sis Penny, for a wonderful study of Proverbs 14:12. Have a blessed week, everyone!

Good evening everyone,
ReplyDeleteWisdom vs Folly
Proverbs 14:12
Share what stood out to you from this study The paths of wisdom vs folly.
What I gathered from this study is that: “There is a way that seems right to a person, but its end is the way of death.”
The way that seems right is the way of self-reliance. It is allowing my feelings, and culture of the day to dictate what I do and how I behave. This may appear right, but in reality the end is detrimental. This way is folly!
Instead of relying my own instincts and cultural norms. God is calling me to trust Him, to trust his Word, and to rely more on His Spirit. “The Spirit will gently redirect me when I pause to listen, protecting me from deception and leading me into life.” This is Wisdom!
What truth will you carry with you into your daily walk?
The truth I Will carry with me is:
“Trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding. In all my ways acknowledge Him , and He will make my path straight.”
Wisdom is not just knowing the right way but choosing to follow it, even when it costs comfort or pride.
Begin my day with open hands: “Lord, I surrender my way to You. Lead me into life the path of life.” (Proverbs 4:5-6)
Have a Blessed Night!

Proverbs 14 : 12
That second part of this verse; said it's end is the way of death
But l always read this verse as it may end in death.
Now l realize , is not may ; but it will end in death
There are many times l focus on the beginning not on the outcome.
Many times in the past when l followed my instincts and the outcome was not whanted.
Doing this study is helping me see, That without the word of God and his wisdom
I would be relying on what seemed right to me.
I praise You, Father, for opening my eyes to the truth of your word and exposing
Parts that would have led me to ruin.
Gong forward:
I will practice the habit of asking:
Dose this align with scripture.

Wisdom VS Folly Proverbs 14: 12
The truth I will carry in my daily walk is
Trus vs Self- Reliance
" Trust in the Lord with all your heart and not lean on your own understanding . In all your ways acknowledge Him , and He will make your path straight. " ( Proverbs 3: 5-6 )I think about the times when I leaned on my own understanding and things seemed to be out of reach and frustrated. I thought it was about me doing to achieve the result.Self - Reliance.
However when I came to the place of , realizing that surrendering and trusting God I was able to experience the freedom and peace the come with it .
Therefore, I can Trust God in my daily walk with confidence.
