June 25 -💙 Proverbs 25 & Mark 12:31 – Loving the Melancholic with Wis

June 24 - Proverbs 24 💙 Understanding and Loving the Melancholic

According to Mark 12:31

"You shall love your neighbour as yourself."

This summer, we are deepening our understanding of how to love each temperament as ourselves — and this week, our focus is the Melancholic: introspective, sensitive, and gifted with deep thought and care.  Last night's discussion was rich and was truly an eye opener hearing from Sister Debbie, Sister Alynthia, Sister Trudy, Sister Hazel and Sister Jesmyn.  Sister Claudia you were missed.  Thanks for your contributions ladies.

📖 What Proverbs 24 Teaches About Loving the Melancholic

Proverbs 24 speaks of wisdom, courage, restraint, and the value of good counsel. These are all essential when loving a Melancholic, who may often wrestle with fears, discouragement, or overthinking. They thrive in quiet consistency and are deeply blessed by truth offered with tenderness.

Key verses that guide how to love them:

  • Proverbs 24:5 – “A wise man is strong, and a man of knowledge increases power.”

  • Proverbs 24:10 – “If you are slack in the day of distress, your strength is limited.”

  • Proverbs 24:26 – “He kisses the lips who gives a right answer.”

  • Proverbs 24:32 – “When I saw, I reflected upon it; I looked, and received instruction.”

These verses remind us that giving thoughtful, encouraging truth and standing with the Melancholic in their low seasons is an act of love that reflects God’s heart.

💬 Encouragement for the Melancholic:

Dear Melancholic soul,

Your depth is not a flaw — it’s a divine gift. When you feel unseen or overwhelmed, remember: God sees your quiet sacrifices, your careful love, and your longing for truth. He doesn’t rush you — and neither must you.

Let Proverbs 24:14 comfort you:

“Know that wisdom is thus for your soul; if you find it, then there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off.”

God promises hope and a future. You don’t need to strive for perfection to be loved. Rest in the truth that you are enough, deeply known, and eternally valued.

💬 CHARACTERS

  • 🔴 Choleric: Bold, outspoken, easily frustrated by laziness

  • 🟡 Sanguine: Talkative, distracted, eager to please

  • 🔵 Melancholic: Thoughtful, reflective, easily weighed down by injustice

  • 🟢 Phlegmatic: Peaceful, quiet, tends to avoid conflict and confrontation

🌿 ACT 1: THE TRUTH REVEALS

Sanguine (cheerfully):
🎉 “Ladies! I underlined SEVEN verses in Proverbs 22! Soooo many nuggets! Listen to this one— ‘A good name is to be more desired than great wealth...’ (v.1). That hit me—’cause I love attention, but… am I chasing reputation or righteousness?”

Melancholic (nodding slowly):
📘 “That’s deep, Sandra. I marked that too. But verse 8... ‘He who sows injustice will reap calamity.’ It made me reflect on my reactions to unfair situations. I replay them too long in my mind.”

Choleric (leaning forward):
🔥 “Verse 13 shook me: ‘The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside…” Like, seriously? Excuses! I’m always pushing others to act, but this convicted me—I sometimes push too hard. I need to balance urgency with grace.”

Phlegmatic (smiling gently):
🌿 “I underlined verse 17: ‘Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise.’ I’m usually quiet, but I realized I can lean in more—not just to listen, but to apply. I avoid action out of comfort. That’s not peace—that’s passivity.”

🌿 ACT 2: TRANSFORMATION BEGINS

Choleric (pointing at the verse):
🔥 “Verse 24 says, ‘Do not associate with a man given to anger…’ Whew. What if I’m that person? I’ve lost my cool when I felt disrespected. But I’m learning to pause before I pounce.”

Sanguine (giggling, then pausing):
💛 “Girl, me too. Verse 5 made me think: ‘Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse.’ When I ignore wise counsel or jump into drama—it backfires. I'm learning to say no to things, even if it makes me seem ‘boring.’”

Melancholic (softly):
🔵 “I journaled verse 10: ‘Drive out the scoffer, and contention will go out.’ Sometimes... I scoff in silence, in my thoughts. I don’t say it, but I replay wrongs. I want to be transformed into someone who lets go.

Phlegmatic (nodding):
🟢 “Same here. Verse 3 really spoke to me: ‘The prudent sees the evil and hides himself…’ I hide, but not out of wisdom—out of fear. I want to discern and act, not disappear.”

🌿 ACT 3: DECLARATIONS OF CHANGE

All Together (with conviction):
📖 “Our temperaments may be different, but our transformation is the same—by the power of God’s Word!”

Choleric:
🔴 “I will lead with wisdom, not just drive.”

Sanguine:
🟡 “I will delight in truth, not just attention.”

Melancholic:
🔵 “I will process through prayer, not just emotion.”

Phlegmatic:
🟢 “I will seek peace through action, not just stillness.”

🛤️ Temperament Transformation
Through Proverbs 21

📖 Greetings, Wisdom Seekers!

Thank you for joining us in yesterday’s Proverbs reflection!

Before diving into today’s transformation guide, take a moment to prayerfully read Proverbs 21. Ask the Holy Spirit to highlight what He wants you to see—not just for knowledge, but for transformation. This chapter speaks to our motives, justice, speech, diligence, and how deeply God knows our hearts.

Whether you’re naturally bold, bubbly, analytical, or calm—the Spirit and the Word are working in you to shape a temperament that reflects Christ more clearly each day.

👉🏽 Be sure to read through all four temperament sections—don’t stop at your dominant one.
God often uses our secondary temperament to reveal blind spots or hidden strengths. Take time to reflect on both your primary and secondary temperaments for a deeper, more complete transformation experience. You may find the Holy Spirit speaking in unexpected ways!

  • Avoid shallow pleasures and seek joy that satisfies the soul.

  • Choose wisdom over impulse, letting the Spirit guide my energy.

🗯️ Affirmation: “My joy is anchored in godly wisdom.”

🔵 MELANCHOLIC – Transformed Reflection through Trust

Key Verse: Proverbs 21:30
“There is no wisdom, no understanding, and no plan against the Lord.”

Transformation Focus – I will seek to:

  • Trust God’s sovereignty, especially when my plans fall short.

  • Take Spirit-led action without overanalyzing or second-guessing.

  • Let grace lead me, releasing perfectionism for peace.

🗯️ Affirmation: “God’s wisdom is greater than my plans.”

🟢 PHLEGMATIC – Transformed Peace through Purpose

Key Verse: Proverbs 21:25
“The desire of the lazy one puts him to death, for his hands refuse to work.”

Transformation Focus – I will seek to:

  • Say yes to disciplined action, even in the small, steady steps.

  • Let my peace fuel productivity, not procrastination.

  • Take quiet but bold steps forward, trusting the Spirit’s prompting.

🗯️ Affirmation: “My calm is empowered by Spirit-led action.”

💬 COMMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

📝 Now that you’ve explored all four temperaments:

✨ 1. Choose ONE “I will seek to” statement from your primary temperament—the one that most reflects your natural personality.

✨ 2. Do the same for your secondary temperament—the area where God may be gently shaping new growth.

🗣️ Post both statements in the comments.

🔹 Option 1: L.I.G.H.T. — Choose just ONE simple action.

🔹 Option 2: L.E.A.N.-I.N. — Choose ONE or more thoughtful prompts for deeper reflection.

🔹 You can switch between options daily or combine them—whatever works for your season.

🌸 Whether you share a full reflection or simply say, “I read,” know this—your voice matters, and your journey is meaningful. Every step you take is part of your transformation, and we’re cheering you on. 💚 Don’t worry about how much others are posting—just read, receive, and be refreshed. This space isn’t about comparison or competition—it’s about complementing each other as we grow in wisdom together.

📖 Today’s Chapter: Proverbs 15

“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”Proverbs 15:1
“The tongue of the wise makes knowledge acceptable…”Proverbs 15:2
“A soothing tongue is a tree of life…”Proverbs 15:4
“A person finds joy in giving an apt reply—how good is a timely word!”Proverbs 15:23
“Whoever heeds life-giving correction will be at home among the wise.”Proverbs 15:31

🌱 Gentle Reflection:
Today’s verses are full of heart checks. Take a moment to quietly consider:

  • How does your temperament handle correction?

  • Do your words build up or stir conflict?

  • Are you slow to speak, quick to listen, or the other way around?

You don’t need to post answers to these—just allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you through them.

✅ Option 1: L.I.G.H.T. Involvement

(Quick & Simple—Choose only ONE to post in the comments)

Letter    What to Post   Sample Response
L    Leave a verse that stood out   “The verse that stood out to me today is … ”
I        Indicate you read the blog   “I read the blog.”
G    Glance at the reflection question   “I glanced at the reflection question.”
H    Highlight one word/phrase   “The word that struck me is … ”
T    Take a moment to stay connected    “Hello everyone!”

🕯️ Perfect for busy days or quiet moments when you just want to stay close.

💬 Option 2: L.E.A.N.-I.N. Involvement

(Go Deeper—Choose ONE or more prompts to reflect on and optionally post)

These prompts are designed to help you pause, reflect, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide your transformation. You do not need to answer all (or any) in the comments unless led—just reflect as part of your process:

Letter        Reflection QuestionsFocus
L        Look into today’s Proverbs:  What verse speaks directly to your
        temperament?
Awareness
E        Examine your heart: Is there an area your temperament that is
        being challenged or corrected today?
Honesty
A        Apply one verse: How could this wisdom change your reactions,
        words, or thinking?
Application
N        Notice something new: Is there a new mindset, response,
        or habit to embrace?
Renewal
I            Invite the Holy Spirit: Where is He gently nudging you to yield
        or grow?
Surrender
N            Nurture your growth: What will help you walk this out
        —prayer,  journaling, or action?
Consistency

🌿 Take your time with these. Transformation isn’t rushed—it’s walked out, step by step.

📝 Your Response:

  1. Choose your option: L.I.G.H.T., L.E.A.N.-I.N., or a blend.

  2. Post your response in the comments below—even just “I read” counts.

  3. Encourage someone else with a reply, emoji, or uplifting word if you're able.

📌 As we read Proverbs 15, let’s ask God for gentle answers, wise tongues, and hearts open to correction. This is how He shapes our temperaments into Christlikeness.

We’re growing together—one Proverb at a time.

A great day to all!
